How to make wh- questions
We usually use do or does to make wh- questions in the present simple.
What do you want from me?
Which dress does she like more?
Why do we live in such a place?
Where do they park their car?
How do they communicate with them?
Be careful:
When what, who, which, whose is the subject or part of the subject of a question, we do not use the auxiliary verbs do or does.
What made the terrible noise?
Who calls you so often?
Which sponsor supports you?
Whose car needs the new oil?
Compare:
Who calls you so often? (Who is the subject, you is the object and I want to know the names of people who call you.)
Who do you call so often? (Who is the object, you is the subject and I want to know the names of people you call.)
Similarly:
Which sponsor supports you? (Which sponsor is the subject of the question.)
Which team do you support? (Which team is the object of the question.)
