Complete the following dialogue with the past simple or past continuous tense. Use the words in brackets.



A: As I (drive) to work last Friday, all of a sudden a car stopped in front of me.

B: What did you do when you (see) it?

A: I (step) on the brakes and (swerve) to avoid hitting the car from behind.

B: You (be) lucky that you (not hit) the other car.

A: Fortunately, I didn't crash into the car. But I nearly (run) over a girl who (stand) next to it.

B: I suppose she (be) the driver from the other car.

A: No, she wasn't. She (just pass) our cars when the incident (happen). It was a coincidence.

B: All's well that ends well. You (not damage) the cars and (not hurt) anybody.

A: That's not the end of the story, however. I (get) out of my car and (go) to see the driver in the car in front of me.

B: Yes? And who was it? you (know) him?

A: Yes, I knew her. When I (come) to her car, she (sit) behind the wheel and sending a text message to you.

B: To me? Are you joking?

A: No, I'm not. It (be) your girlfriend, Marion.
