Active vs passive voice

We use the active voice when we know who decorated the room. If we do not know it or we do not want to mention it, we use the passive voice.

Active voice: People buy more and more things in e-shops.
Passive voice: More and more things are bought in e-shops.

Active voice: Someone decorated this room yesterday.
Passive voice: This room was decorated yesterday.

The passive voice is formed with the verb to be and the past participle.

Look at the following examples of the passive voice in all tenses:

Present simple tense: The car is repaired.
Present continuous tense: The car is being repaired.
Past simple tense: The meal was eaten.
Past continuous tense: The meal was being eaten.
Future simple tense: A new house will be built.
Present perfect tense: The email has been sent.
Past perfect tense: The address had been changed.

The continuous forms of the passive voice are not used in the future tense and perfect tenses.
